By Kellie Todd Griffin

CARSON, CA – (Jan. 13, 2024) – In response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s proposed 2024-25 budget of $291.5 billion, with an estimated $37.9 billion deficit, the California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute (CABWCEI) issued the following statement.

“With a nearly $38 billion deficit, we know that there will be some difficult decisions that will need to be made. However, we want to ensure the safety net programs that many Black Californians depend on won’t take the hardest hits. As stakeholders, it’s imperative that we are active and have a voice in this process,” states Kellie Todd Griffin, President and CEO of California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute.

Based in Los Angeles, the California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, focuses on uplifting the voices and issues of Black Women and Girls throughout the state. Through partnerships with corporate, social, not-for-profit, and advocacy entities, the Empowerment Institute develops programs and initiatives that have a meaningful impact on dismantling systemic social, economic, and physical barriers.
