About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Communications and Development Specialist to work on developing and implementing effective communications and fundraising strategies. Your main responsibility will be to identify funding opportunities and maintain effective communications in order to support and increase awareness of our organization. The position emphasizes synthesizing information, relationship building, persuasive writing, and crafting and adapting language, communication styles, and messaging to meets the specific needs of varying initiatives and audiences in support of securing funding from multiple types of funding sources, communicating and increasing visibility and understanding of CABWCEI’s work and impact.

In addition, this position will develop and distribute content through various internal and external channels and support partner relationships. The role will track and analyze data for how to inform our network and provide impact measurements. The individual in this position should have a creative vision, effective process and project management abilities, content development skills, understanding of data analysis, collaborative approach, and have the ability to see big picture for aligning content and data to engage and impact our networks.

Requirements

Be a part of the first policy think tank that exclusively focuses on improving the lives of Black Women and Girls! The California Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute is looking for a Senior Communications and Development Specialist to execute and oversee its development, strategic communications and member engagement program.


This position is under the direction of the President/CEO to perform the following essential job functions:


Communications

  • Generate awareness and interest in our organization through a wide range of outreach and communication activities including social media, email and print communications, presentations, and online events

  • Develop and oversee the execution of the overarching communications and marketing strategy

  • Research, collect, and analyze data to help devise strategies for the best outreach and communications practices

  • Promote knowledge sharing and develop communication material to support the expansion of new partnerships, and of approaches to enhance cooperation and joint initiatives

  • Create and administer content for magazine, podcast, communication strategy and social media platforms

  • Develop member marketing and outreach materials

  • Provide market research campaign results

  • Coordinate event and program promotions

  • Assist in planning and branding signature events

  • Create press releases and media outreach

  • Develop and manage brand strategy and serve as a liaison


Development

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet organizational goals

  • Manage donor relationships and cultivate new donor prospects

  • Utilize CRM software to track donor interactions and manage fundraising campaigns

  • Coordinate and execute fundraising events, including logistics, promotion, and follow-up

  • Write compelling initial drafts of grant proposals and reports to secure funding from foundations and other grant-making organizations

  • Support research on potential donors, including individuals, corporations, and foundations

  • Create fundraising materials, such as brochures, newsletters, and social media campaigns

  • Secure sponsorships for signature events and campaigns

  • Stay up-to-date on best practices in nonprofit management and fundraising techniques

  • Other key elements for success may be assigned


Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:

  • BA degree in journalism, communication, political science, marketing, social justice, project management, or other related fields.

  • Five years of relevant experience in event planning, outreach, information management, and communication in both the private and the public sector.

  • Three years experience in power building, community outreach or strategic marketing

  • Lived experience that aligns with CA Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute’s mission, vision and values

  • Proven experience handling logistics for high profile events, including communications planning, identifying speakers, and managing a budget

  • Experience working in a high-visibility, fast-paced environment

  • Experience writing articles, blogs, scripts, articles, newsletters, talking points, and social media posts for diverse external audiences

  • Proven experience in fundraising for nonprofit organizations

  • Experience in social media content management, platform capabilities

  • Understanding of research and data analysis

  • Proficient in AP style word press and data analytics

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Adobe Suite and other related programs

  • Strong organizational, communications skills with oral and written with excellent eye for detail

  • Willing to be a team player in a small office environment

  • Organize and enable coverage of activities and events and provide media representatives with relevant information

  • Familiarity with fundraising databases and CRM software (such as Powerbase)

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 plus a competitive benefits package

CA Black Women’s Collective Empowerment Institute, a 501C3 non-profit organization, is focused on improving the lives of Black Women and Girls throughout the state.
