Honoring Black Girl Joy Across California
ACR 226 designates August 10, 2024 — and August 10 of each year thereafter — as Black Girl Joy Day, encouraging all Californians to join in celebrating, uplifting, and affirming Black girls.
This resolution formally recognizes what communities have long known to be true: Black girls deserve joy, visibility, protection, and celebration — not just in moments, but as a shared societal value.
Why Black Girl Joy Matters
In a world where Black girls are often expected to be resilient beyond their years, the Black Girl Joy Festival creates intentional space for play, imagination, self-expression, and rest.
This festival exists to:
-
Affirm Black girls exactly as they are
-
Create joyful memories that last a lifetime
-
Strengthen community and family connection
-
Celebrate Black girlhood as powerful, worthy, and beautiful
Joy is not extra. Joy is essential.
